Lexington Medical Center 44th annual Governor’s Cup Road Race
The Lexington Medical Center 44th annual Governor’s Cup Road Race took place on May 13 and May 14, 2016. This was a season of change as we put forth a new race date on all new courses. Future dates will fall on the first Saturday after Mother’s Day.
Events opened on Friday evening at 7:00 pm with our new event, the Main Street Mile. The elite division men’s winner was Nicholas Kurgat in a time of 4:17 and the women’s was Yolanda Ngarambe in a time of 4:49. The open division men’s winner was Jeremy Lewin in 4:58 and the women’s division was Charmaine Howell in a time of 6:23.
On Saturday, the half marathon started under sunny skies and low 60s temps at 7:00 am, followed by the 5k run and 5k walk at 7:30 am, and then our kid’s fun run that started at 8:30 am. The top male in the half marathon were Nicholas Kurgat in a time of 1:07:27 and top female Zipporah Chebet in a time of 1:16:37. For the 5k race, the male winner was James Sires in a time of 16:28 and the top female was Yolanda Ngarambe in a time of 16:46. Everyone was a winner in the kid’s fun run as they ran through the balloon arch, through bubbles, and around colored cones. Please view full race results here.
