The 2017 Governor’s Cup Road Race Charity Beneficiary will be the American Diabetes Association. We are excited about partnering with ADA and making a difference for those feeling the effects of diabetes.
The ADA mission is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Nearly 30 million battle diabetes and every 23 seconds someone new is diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes causes more deaths a year than breast cancer and AIDS combined.
Governor’s Cup Road Race supports the ADA Camp Carolina Trails which is an exciting week of summer fun for boys and girls entering grades 3 through 11. Camp includes many sports and activities such as swimming, hiking, canoeing, and arts and crafts. It will be held at YMCA Camp Hanes on 400 acres next to Hanging Rock State Park. Nestled on a quiet hillside in the heart of Sauertown Mountains, Camp Hanes is a perfect setting for a week of adventure, education and friendship. The residential camp currently houses 180 youth. Funds raised through the Governor’s Cup Road Race will help fund scholarships for campers to attend the local Camp Carolina Trails and also support local ADA programs.
